Description

La Macchiona is a bottle that is also an icon and manifesto of Italian natural wine and an emblematic and engaging compendium of the artisanal dimension of the Piacenza hills. Named for an old farmhouse in the midst of the vineyard, Macchiona is La Stoppa’s flagship red and the 2002 has a slightly different label from other vintages; the “dieciannidopo” or “ten years later” is a nod to that vintage having been held back for 10 years before release. It is made with the estate’s oldest vines (up to about 65 years old) of Barbera and Bonards (50%) , grown on silty clay soils and farmed organically, with no fertilizers and with wild plants flourishing between rows.
In the mouth the wine is very lively, driven by great freshness and perfect tannins. The legacy he leaves behind is very long, not only in the mouth, but in the memory. To try at least once in your life.
Vinification
Spontaneous fermentation and maceration on the skins for 40 days in stainless steel and concrete vats. Aged in 20 hl oak barrels for the needed time. And after 10 years in bottle. No sulfites added
Pairing
Ideal as an accompaniment to structured first courses, also excellent with semi-mature cheeses.
