Gran Vin de Barnag
Bence Szilágyi, the only man behind Gran Vin de Barnag winery, can be considered the rising star in the world of natural wines.
Young and Talented he is headquartered in Barnag, a small village just few kilometers away from the northern side of the Balaton lake in Hungary.
Bence total production is very small (10000 bottles in total) but despite this his wines are shipped in ten different countries in the world and his wines are disputed between distributors; and for very good reasons.
The Furmint we tried was really love at the first sight; bright acidity, long finish in the mouth, a perfect balance. Aged in a mix of old oak barrels and bottled unfined, unfiltered with no added sulphur whatsoever. Bence tried to minimize spraying and copper use as much as possible. He does not till the soil and relies on natural flora for natural fermentation.
The labels on wine bottles are a free interpretation taken from the Flemish artist Pieter Brugel and portray one of the Seven Deadly Sins, gluttony.
