La Stoppa goes to Cile

Pisador is the new project from Elena Pantaleoni of La Stoppa and her good friend Nicola Massa. Elena’s connection to Chile is longstanding: her mother has been living here for more than twenty years and during a 2015 holiday trip, Elena had the chance to visit some of the amazing terroirs and very old vineyards between the Maule and Bío Bío valleys.

The Pisador comes from País grapes, a native Chilean vine that was probably introduced by the missionaries.

Manually harvesting the grapes, as in the style of Elena, fermentation takes place spontaneously using only indigenous yeasts and with a long maceration of the skins, and then concludes with refinement in used barriques. The idea is to produce a totally natural long-aged wine, to best express the Coronel de Maule terroir and enhance País.

In the future, the aim of Elena is to expand production volumes and also to make a white wine, obviously always from old vines. https://www.lastoppa.it/homepage-eng
